Lifting

Lifting

No band goes out on a gig without having to transport and install their equipment. In many countries, laws are protecting workers from lifting objects over about 25 kg/ 55 lbs, but weight is not the only issue. Awkward lifting angles are equally dangerous.  In most cases, the lower back is the spot where problems arise. And just like allergy, hearing loss and repetitive strain injuries, they show up after a longer period of less responsible behavior.

Avoid it

Avoid any lifting you can. Spend money on a folding trolley that you can take with you in your car. Don’t be a heckler, ask for help. If you have to lift anyway, try to follow the simple  instructions from the video.

The key is to squat and use the legs to lift the object, keeping the back stretched throughout the entire lifting maneuver. Take special care while putting the object down again. Also then, use your legs!
